During the summer of 2002, Andrew's parents told us of their intention to downsize their current home and move to somewhere smaller, still within Cambridge. Everyone thought this a great idea as all their kids had grown and moved out, their old place was now too large. The only problem this presented us with, was the fact that they were storing a lot of our possessions that we either did not want or need in America; this list included our two British classic cars. It caused us to think long and hard about what to do, basically we had two choices. Ship it all, or store it all! Storage for an extended period of time in a dehumidified environment was not cheap, so we took the easier of the two options and had the lot shipped to the States at the end of October 2002. It gave Andrew the excuse to buy more toys for the garage in readiness for both the cars and the work he wanted to do on them, the biggest of which was a four post ramp!
Since the contents of the container arrived at our home in Novi in December of 2002, we've had a lot of fun with the cars, the Ginetta at least, and we're happy we spent the money to bring them over. The GT6 needs fairly major work to bring her back to the fantastic condition she was in when we left England in 1994, and we're really not sure whether this will happen in America or when we get back to the UK sometime in the future. After a thorough check over and some updating the little G15 made it legally back on to the roads in September of 2003, exactly 31 years to the day of the cars first registration in England! The old girl was only on the road for a month before the weather turned foul, but we had some great trips out. I also wrote two articles about the car for The Ginetta Owners Club magazine, both of which were published, you can read them below. They chronicle our ownership of the car from when we bought her up to the present day, including what we've done with the car in America, so I won't repeat the stories here. Also included are quite a few photos in the life of our Ginetta.
Article One... of the story. From buying the car to shipping it to America.
Article Two... of the story. From the car arriving in America to getting it back on the road and then some!
